About

Violins, clarinets, and drums come together in a hot whirlwind - Balkan dances, klezmer twists, and Middle Eastern intonations alternate without pause. Acid Hasid, led by Andrey Antonenko, plays world music on the scale of an orchestra, and this evening easily ends in dance even for the most serious. Sometimes it takes just a couple of bars for the body to remember what movement is. For Acid Hasid, it starts with the very first phrase: the strings initiate a conversation, the clarinet picks it up with a husky smile, and the drums raise the tempo so that you want to step, spin, and clap your hands. The ensemble works at the intersection of gipsy, klezmer, Balkan, and oriental, so the music simultaneously embodies both street audacity and delicate lyricism. The project is assembled from musicians with different experiences and biographies: the lineup includes members of the ensembles "Cabriolet", "Dobranotch", and the group "Leningrad". This "puzzle" is immediately audible - each plays like a soloist and does not get lost in the overall texture, and the change of timbres occurs as swiftly as the plots change in folk melodies. At the helm of this caravan is Andrey Antonenko: he keeps the rhythm, builds the dramaturgy, and carefully doses the improvisation so that it works for the overall acceleration. The essence of the program is in a journey without a geographical map. The Balkans provide spring and fire, klezmer offers witty intonations and a crying smile, the Middle East brings spicy turns and long, drawn-out notes. At some point, you begin to hear how old motifs transform into today’s music: somewhere it’s almost a jam, somewhere a dance march, somewhere a chamber song that suddenly explodes into a collective chorus of instruments. This concert is worth attending for those tired of identical playlists and seeking a live sound that keeps the audience engaged. It will suit both those who love ethnic music and those simply looking for an evening that leaves them energized. In 2024, the ensemble received the first prize at the Russian World Music Awards in the category of "Best Ethnomusic Project in Russia", and this is a good indicator: they know how to combine mastery and drive.
