Inspired by English baroque and Celtic folklore, the program "Fairies and Demons" combines the mystique of ancient opera with the vibrant breath of folk music. The music of Purcell, Geminiani, and Irish ballads will come alive in the performance of the ensemble Transients on historical instruments-from viola da gamba to theorbo. English baroque music is a world where folklore and classical music go hand in hand. The program "Fairies and Demons" transports us to an era when theater and music drew inspiration from legends, myths, and magical stories. Henry Purcell and Francesco Geminiani are two composers, each in their own way crossing genre boundaries, inspired by both courtly and folk music. Audiences can expect polyphonic fantasies and arias from the operas "Dido and Aeneas" and "The Fairy Queen"-magical works that embody elemental and enchanting images. They will be joined by Scottish and Irish themes collected by Geminiani during his life in London and Edinburgh: ballads heard in taverns and on the streets, transformed into elegant arias. The ensemble Transients consists of young musicians studying and performing in Russia and Europe, who play music on historical instruments: viola da gamba, theorbo, baroque violin, harpsichord. Their approach is based on historically informed performance: they do not just play ancient music, but rediscover it as a living and relevant artistic text. The artistic director of the ensemble, Alexandra Maglyovanaya, actively promotes ancient music and a historical approach in Russia, conducting lectures and masterclasses. For this evening, she has gathered a truly passionate team: among the performers are vocalist Anastasia Bondareva, baroque violinists, theorists, and harpsichordists, each of whom strives to share their love for baroque with the audience.
