"Jazz on the Neva" is an evening where familiar melodies of domestic composers gain a fresh improvisational pulse. Gasan Bagirov and his ensemble immerse you in the atmosphere of St. Petersburg jazz: subtle harmonies, lively drive, a dialogue between guitar, piano, double bass, and drums. "Jazz on the Neva" is a meeting of recognizable themes and the free improvisational element. The second concert of the subscription "Jazz in the Chapel" brings together on one stage the honored artist of the Azerbaijan Republic, soloist of the Saint Petersburg State Jazz Philharmonic Gasan Bagirov (guitar) and his ensemble - Nikolai Sizov (piano), Vadim Mikhailov (double bass), Andrey Ivanov (drums). Together, the musicians present the music of Leningrad and St. Petersburg composers in original jazz arrangements, preserving melodic clarity while adding rhythmic inventiveness. The program includes works by Andrey Petrov, David Goloshchokin, Vasily Solovyev-Sedy, Viktor Lebedev, as well as bright original pieces by Gasan Bagirov himself. Each theme is like a familiar panorama of the Neva: you recognize the outlines of the shore, but the light, wind, and angle change the picture. The jazz interpretation will reveal hidden colors of the melodies, translating them into a conversation of four voices, where solo and accompaniment constantly swap places.
