About

The Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Arsentiy Tkachenko and cellist Alexander Ramm will present an evening featuring Dvořák's concerto and Brahms' Fourth Symphony. In the first part - the Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104 by Antonín Dvořák. This score became a kind of creative testament for the composer: it expresses both longing for home and gratitude for life, as well as a sense of a journey approaching an important milestone. The cello leads the narrative from the very first measures, sometimes arguing with the orchestra, sometimes merging with it in a single melodic line. Alexander Ramm knows how to present the instrument both as the voice of an individual and as a collective image - where every stroke conveys a personal story. The orchestra responds with a rich, saturated color: brass and woodwinds, flexible strings, precise accents from the percussion. Arsentiy Tkachenko constructs the dialogue so that the soloist never disappears into the mass of sound, yet does not exist separately from it. In the climaxes, the music literally envelops the hall in a wave, while in the quiet episodes it creates a sense of an intimate conversation, where one wants to listen, holding their breath. In the second part, Symphony No. 4 in E minor, Op. 98 by Johannes Brahms will be performed. This is one of the most concentrated and formally strict works of the composer, where feeling and thought are constantly in balance. The orchestra traverses four movements, alternating bright and dark colors, energetic motions and prolonged reflections. The final passacaglia gathers all the experience of the symphony into one large monologue, where there are no superfluous phrases - only clear, measured intonations.
