More than thirty saxophones gather in one concert to reintroduce Russian music of the 20th and 21st centuries - from Glazunov to Rachmaninoff and Kapustin. Here, familiar compositions acquire a new scale, vibrant timbral depth, and rare performing energy, while the sound of the large saxophone ensemble becomes the main discovery of the evening. The saxophone rarely finds itself at the center of a large academic evening on such a scale, which is why this program immediately attracts attention. On stage, the Great Russian Saxophone Orchestra will gather the best young musicians from St. Petersburg and Moscow. In a performance by more than thirty artists, works by Russian composers of the 20th and 21st centuries will be performed, and the familiar repertoire will be revealed through an unusual timbral composition, where each voice of the saxophone family contributes to a powerful and dynamic overall sound. The program is structured to showcase different aspects of this instrument and its expressive possibilities. The Saxophone Concerto with Orchestra by Alexander Glazunov reminds us how naturally the saxophone fits into academic music - with noble cantilena, clear form, and delicate solo line. Next to it is the concerto by Nikolai Kapustin, where brilliance, rhythmic freedom, jazz energy, and the speed of modern musical thinking can be heard. Such a comparison is particularly interesting: the same instrument appears both lyrical and virtuosic, and sharply modern. The project is led by Sergey Kolesov - author, director, and soloist, with Alexey Vasiliev at the podium. The concert features saxophonists and graduates of leading music educational institutions, adding extra weight to the evening.
