About

Baroque music will sound lively and contemporary: the chamber orchestra Vox Cordis will connect Vivaldi and Bach with Purcell and Corelli, with the central idea of "new understanding" and the freedom of historical sound. Four violins, cello and basso continuo, soprano voice and the dramatic "Dido's Lament" will weave into a story where the ear catches the nuance of each phrase. Baroque often seems like a museum exhibit - beautiful, but seemingly detached from our everyday life. This evening will break the distance: Vox Cordis will show how the music of the 17th and 18th centuries can speak directly if heard without "gilding" and listener stereotypes. The program's title refers to a book by Nikolaus Arnonkur - and indeed helps to listen more attentively: not to seek "correctness", but to notice meaning in every gesture. The dramaturgy will be built on contrasts and details. Vivaldi brings four violins and cello to the forefront, and the music becomes almost a stage - with dialogues, call-and-response, and excitement. Bach responds with the strict architecture of the concertos: within it, one can easily recognize the rhythm of breathing and the clear logic that holds everything together. Purcell leaves a recognizable trace - "Dido's Lament", where a simple melodic line transforms into an internal monologue. Corelli adds energy to the concerto grosso, while Porpora reminds us of the theatrical nature of the era and how virtuosity can be gentle and human. An up-to-date program for Moscow is presented on KudaGo.
