In honor of the 100th anniversary of Maya Plisetskaya's birth, the Yeltsin Center will present a choreographic program inspired by the legendary ballerina. Fragments of iconic performances, screen appearances of Plisetskaya, the premiere of the miniature «Hands», and piano interludes will create a touching and powerful atmosphere. The concert «Ave Maya» at the Yeltsin Center is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great ballerina Maya Plisetskaya. This evening is not just a tribute, but a profound artistic gesture that brings together music, dance, and cinema on one stage. The program is developed in collaboration with the Ural Ballet and under the musical direction of Alexey Goribol - a renowned pianist and witness to Plisetskaya's stage triumphs. The title of the evening refers to the piece of the same name created by Maurice Béjart specifically for Maya Plisetskaya. It will open the evening on screen, followed by performances from Yekaterinburg dancers. Each of them will present fragments from the ballets that glorified Plisetskaya - from «Swan Lake» to «Carmen Suite», from «Don Quixote» to «Raymonda». However, the artists do not seek to replicate the great past - on the contrary, they offer a young, personal, and sensual interpretation of the classics. Particular attention will be given to the premiere of «Hands». Composer Dmitry Mazurov uses in the music the speech of Plisetskaya from a documentary film from 1964. Choreographer Maxim Petrov created a figurative, modern dance reflection on plasticity, control, and expressiveness based on it. Alexey Goribol not only performs piano interludes - pieces that Plisetskaya loved - but also accompanies the dancers live, creating a musical dialogue between the past and the present. The program encompasses different styles, eras, and moods, but is united by one emotion - admiration for the personality and creativity of Maya Mikhailovna. «Ave Maya» is an evening of gratitude, inspiration, and new life for the classics. It is suitable for both ballet enthusiasts and the general public interested in culture, music, and the history of dance.
