Melodies of the 20th century and the powerful sound of the king of instruments - the solemn closing of the contemporary music festival "Lостинг" will take place at the Cathedral of Peter and Paul. On this evening, three performers will take the stage: the titular organist of the papal basilica of St. Michael, Daniel Salvador, and international competition laureates Hiroko Inoue and Stefania Ermolayeva. The organ will appear as a "laboratory of sound," and the central image of the program will be the "monolith" - the massive sound of the instrument, which in the music of the last century disintegrates through noise effects and work with registers. The main event will be the Russian premiere of Morton Feldman's composition Principal Sound in honor of his 100th anniversary. In dialogue with him, the music of John Cage will be heard, while another vector will be represented by Te Deum by Pēteris Vasks. The final point will be the radical Volumina by György Ligeti. The program of masterpieces from the last century will be complemented by a large-scale video projection on the dome of the cathedral, emphasizing the grandeur of the historical instrument and the complexity of modern music.
