The program includes comedies and dramas by Isidor Annensky. Before the screenings, there will be short comments from the curators. There are directors whose films everyone knows, yet their names are not immediately recalled. Isidor Annensky is just such a case. The retrospective is dedicated to the 120th anniversary of his birth. It starts with the Chekhov circle: "The Bear," "The Man in a Case," "The Wedding." Here, Annensky skillfully combines comedy and pain, and a funny line easily turns into a diagnosis of the time. The line then expands: "Princess Mary" leads to a Lermontovian plot about boredom, self-love, and the game of feelings, while the melodramas "Ekaterina Voronina" and "Sleepless Night" add everyday tension.
