About

Screening of the first Soviet sound feature film "A Ticket to Life" by Nikolai Ekka. The plot centers on the homeless children of Moscow in the 1920s, kids and teenagers who grew up in street gangs after the upheavals of the era. A few kids end up in a labor commune, where they are attempted to be raised through discipline, work, and a new system of relationships. The film is significant as an artistic document of its time. It is the first Soviet feature sound film, so it is particularly interesting to observe how cinema learns to speak a new language. Sound here becomes part of the environment: voices, the rhythm of the street, the intonations of the characters, the tension of collective scenes can be heard. The creators aimed for authenticity: the director and his team lived for several months in a children's educational institution, and the main role performers were taken from such an environment. Because of this, the on-screen story gains a nerve that is hard to replace with actor convention. After the screening, there will be a discussion with Tatyana Nedostupova - producer of the creative association "ChP". Where to go with a child in Moscow, look for on our website.
