The film consists of three standalone novellas set in the USA, Ireland, and France. What connects these stories is not the plot, but the motif: adult children visiting their parents. In one novella, a brother and sister, played by Adam Driver and Mayim Bialik, travel to their absent-minded hermit father in the northeastern depths of the USA. In another, the heroines Vicky Krieps and Cate Blanchett arrive in Dublin to visit their writer mother, played by Charlotte Rampling. The final part takes the viewer to Paris, where the characters India Murr and Luky Sabba return to their childhood apartment.
