About

A classic of Soviet cinema, where pirate adventures and treasure hunts combine with revolutionary romance. The film, which has preserved the atmosphere of childhood delight, comes alive on the screen again - restored, re-voiced, but still vibrant and captivating. A must-see for fans of old cinema. An adaptation of the famous novel "Treasure Island" - one of the brightest cinematic adventure films of the pre-war era. In 1937, director Vladimir Vainshtein takes on the story of pirates and treasures, not just to transfer it to the screen, but to interpret it through the lens of time, ideals, and sentiments of that period. In his interpretation, the fairy tale transforms into something greater: young Jim Hawkins embarks on a dangerous journey not just for gold, but for truth, for growing up, for freedom. Pirate John Silver is a charismatic antagonist with a philosophical touch. And the ship on which the heroes leave their native shore becomes a symbol of the journey, change, and courage. The spirit of the socialist time is distinctly felt in the film, but it does not overshadow the romance of the original. Almost ninety years have passed, and the film still resonates. It has been restored several times, re-voiced, but has retained the charm of black-and-white cinema and that special aesthetic that cannot be faked. For some, it will be nostalgia for childhood, for others - a new discovery of a classic filmed at the intersection of genres: adventure, children's, ideological. The screening is dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the birth of Robert Louis Stevenson, the author of the original novel. This is a rare opportunity not just to recall the story of pirates, a map, and a chest, but to see how this story lived in the culture of another country, in another century, but with the same dreams. All are welcome to attend. Admission is free, only a ticket to the Museum of Cinema is required. Looking for places to go with a child in Moscow? Check our website.
