In the mid-1920s, the Soviet screen actively explored genre cinema - dynamic, spectacular, and aimed at a wide audience. The fantastic action film by Fyodor Otsep and Boris Barnet "Miss Mend" became one of the hits of its time. The screenplay is based on stories by Marietta Shaginyan. The plot centers around typist Vivian Mend, who gets caught up in a dangerous story where adventurous intrigue, detective work, and comedic episodes alternate with almost serial speed. The film employs techniques developed in Lev Kuleshov's workshop: precise editing, expressive movement in the frame, physical acting, and attention to the rhythm of action. Therefore, the film is interesting also as a document of the formation of a new cinematic language.
