About

Science fiction, noir, and philosophy - on screen, a cult classic by Jean-Luc Godard. The screening, dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the director, allows us to view cinema as a poetic protest against soulless technological advancement. Black-and-white film, voice-over narration, and complete inner freedom - all of this is here. What if humanity voluntarily renounced emotions, art, and poetry, and any display of feelings was deemed a crime? In the sci-fi world of Jean-Luc Godard, all of this has become a reality. Here, a machine rules - the supercomputer Alpha-60, controlling an entire city called Alphaville. Instead of poets, there are engineers; instead of love, there are algorithms. In this dystopian space, a mysterious agent named Lemmy Caution operates. His mission is to destroy the system from within. The film was released in 1965 and has not lost its relevance since. It is not just a classic of the French "New Wave," but a labyrinthine film where every frame is a metaphor, and every word is a challenge. Godard employs the aesthetics of noir, overlays them on urban landscapes, and adds a philosophical context. The result is something more than just a story about the future - it is a reflection on the present. The screening is dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the director's birth. It will provide an opportunity to look anew at one of the most important films of the 20th century, to rethink fears of the future, and to ask ourselves - what makes us human? Watching on the big screen enhances the effect - especially if experienced not alone, but in the company of like-minded individuals. The screening is accompanied by commentary and does not require special knowledge, but will be particularly interesting to those who are passionate about classic and auteur cinema, philosophy, science, urbanism, the art of words, and visual culture. Don't forget that a free ticket to the screening requires a separate entry ticket to the Museum of Cinema.
