For a long time, Vyborg remained almost a foreign land for the residents of St. Petersburg - a city with a different language, architecture, and way of life. This walk will help to see how the Finnish past is still preserved in the appearance of the streets, squares, and buildings. During the excursion, participants will walk from the Railway Square through the Petersburg suburb to the historical center of the city. The talk will cover the history of Vyborg, its role as part of Finland, local architecture, urban legends, and features of everyday life. Special attention will be given to merchant families, gastronomic traditions, and the atmosphere of an old European city that has been preserved just a couple of hours away from St. Petersburg. The final point of the route will be the former building of the Bank of the Northern Countries - a monumental mansion built in the spirit of neo-Renaissance palazzo, with preserved historical interiors. The excursion will be conducted by a guide with 20 years of experience, Denis Tesyolkin. Participants will be provided with radio guides with individual headphones.
