About

A tour of the grand St. Petersburg of the early 20th century will introduce you to the life of the aristocracy on the eve of the empire's collapse. Participants will learn where gifts for holidays were bought, outfits were ordered, and the most luxurious evenings in the capital were held. During the walk, we will talk about the social life of the pre-revolutionary city, where glittering balls, theatrical premieres, shopping in fashionable stores, and the atmosphere of impending change coexisted. The route passes through one of the main high-society districts, where expensive ateliers, restaurants, and shops once stood. Here, fabrics and jewelry were chosen, productions featuring Anna Pavlova were discussed, concerts by Fyodor Shalyapin were listened to, and the lives of famous families - from Shuvalovs to Nobels - were followed. During the walk, you will be able to see the facades of ancient houses, peek into a historic mansion, and learn where the first fashionable bars, the best confectioneries, and shops for the wealthy public were located. The tour will be conducted by Anna Markovich, a graduate of Lev Lurie’s Guide School. Participants will be provided with radio guides with individual headphones.  Meeting point - Malaya Konyushennaya St., 12. Registration is available on the Lev Lurie Culture House website. What to see in St. Petersburg will be suggested by KUDAGO.
