About

Between Fontanka and Liteynaya lies a whole labyrinth of passage yards, old mansions, and unexpected details that are easy to miss if you don’t know where to look. This walk will showcase one of the most contrasting areas of historic St. Petersburg. During the tour, participants will see secret passages, old yards, and rare architectural elements-from a horse trough and a yard with salamanders to traces of lost fountains and an unusual view of the Engineering Castle. The route will pass through the territory of the city’s first planned development, originally intended for affluent residents. A large number of aristocratic mansions associated with the names of industrialists, collectors, patrons, and representatives of the pre-revolutionary elite have been preserved here. Special attention will be paid to the stories of the houses, hiding places, and treasures, as well as how the area has gradually become one of the main attractions for antique dealers and collectors. The tour will be conducted by Anna Markovich, a graduate of Lev Lurie’s Guide School. Participants will be provided with radio guides and individual headphones.  Meeting point - Belinsky St., 2. Registration is available on the website of the Lev Lurie Cultural Center. What to see in St. Petersburg will be suggested by KUDAGO.
