About

The walking tour is dedicated to the art of Fyodor Shekhtel - an outstanding architect of the modernist era, the author of the Ryabushinsky mansion, Yaroslavsky railway station, and other famous buildings. Modernism is a brief era of beauty that flourished in art before the world wars, at the beginning of the troubled 20th century. What did one of the leading architects of that time want to convey? Guests of the tour will learn about this and much more. Participants will embark on a stroll through the picturesque Patriarch Ponds and see architectural masterpieces created by Shekhtel. This includes the Smirnov House, the famous Ryabushinsky mansion, and Levenson’s printing house, as well as the houses where the architect himself lived. The guide will tell about the unusual fate of the master, what his creative path was like, and what is encrypted in the masterpieces of Russian modernism and how to read this information that is inaccessible to the ordinary passerby. The walk will conclude on a high rooftop on the Garden Ring, from where a breathtaking panorama opens up. From this point, one can admire the evening metropolis with its eclectic architecture. The tour starts at the exit from the "Tverskaya" metro station, at the intersection of Tverskaya and Bolshaya Bronnaya streets. Gift certificates are available on the organizers' website, and you can find a list of other events in the project via the link. Follow the news of the "Cult of Roofs" - on Telegram.
