Participants of the tour will discover lesser-known sides of old Moscow, peek into Bulgakov's alleys, find traces of vanished rivers, and unravel architectural mysteries. The walking tour "Beyond Arbat", organized by the Gogol House, is a journey through the alleys of old Moscow, where entire layers of urban history hide behind facades. The walk begins in Gogol Square. Participants will learn about the fate of the Povarskaya and Stolovaya slobodas, through which rivers and streams flowed, now hidden under asphalt, and will learn to "see" them - with the help of toponyms, relief lines, and street names. Special attention will be given to the architectural ensemble of the Gogol House. This is a 19th-century estate built after the fire of 1812. The second part of the route will lead to Arbat Square. From one of its points, known to few, Gogol first saw the capital. Guests will learn why there are two monuments to the writer within a few hundred meters and how they differ. The walk will conclude in the alleys where the pages of "The Master and Margarita" come to life. Participants will see the place where the Master's house stood and discuss where Margarita might have lived. All this is complemented by an engaging story from the guide Svetlana Panchenko.
