Participants of the walk through the famous necropolis will learn the secret meanings of the local monuments and gravestones and look at the ancient cemetery from an unexpected perspective. Since the 19th century, Novodevichy Cemetery has served as the final resting place for outstanding political figures, scientists, heroes, and representatives of the cultural elite of the country. Strolling along the graves of famous deceased individuals, participants of the excursion will admire masterpieces of funerary art, discuss the ritual symbolism used in them, and even trace the evolution of gravestone structures. The guide will tell: where the artifact with a 2000-year history is located, where Lenin was buried, what distinctive feature all pre-revolutionary monuments have, what unusual details may be characteristic of mourning symbolism, why during the Soviet era monuments "played tag", how many animals "live" in the cemetery.
