About

The walk will showcase the area through everyday details, forgotten professions, architectural oddities, and unexpected urban stories. During the tour, the focus will be on the daily life of the Petrograd Side in the early 20th century and the Soviet era. Participants will learn what "hygienic style" in architecture is, where janitors and Finnish milkmaids lived, why dining rooms were located under the roofs of houses, and what the life of the servants of the new Soviet elite looked like. The route includes houses with unusual ornaments, traces of old gardening, and stories related to art, theater, and urban culture. A separate place in the narrative will be taken by the story of Dmitri Shostakovich - the one about mom and furniture. The tour will be conducted by Anna Markovich, a graduate of Lev Lurie’s Guide School. Participants will be provided with radio guides with individual headphones.  Meeting point - Kuybyshev St., 10. Registration can be done on the website of the Lev Lurie Culture House. What to see in St. Petersburg will be suggested by KUDAGO.
