About

The Petersburg of Dostoevsky extends far beyond the Sennaya area. On a walk through the Petrograd side, participants will trace the routes of the characters from "Crime and Punishment," learn what connected the writer to this part of the city, and try to discern traces of the second half of the 19th century in the modern streets. Dostoevsky's Petersburg is often associated with the Sennaya Square area, narrow alleys, and the unsettling geography of the novel "Crime and Punishment." However, the literary map is broader than the usual route. This walk shifts the focus to the Petrograd side - a part of the city where one can also search for traces of the writer, his time, and his characters. The route is built around questions that make the walk resemble an investigation. Which characters from the novel have been here? What streets could this path have taken? What circumstances connected Dostoevsky to this side of Petersburg? And what remains today of the city from the second half of the 19th century - in the layout, old houses, names, courtyards, views of the embankments, and in the very feeling of the area? We know what to see in Saint Petersburg.
