About

Embark on an atmospheric walk where forgotten gardens and hidden rivers of Moscow come to life. Together with guide Svetlana Panchenko, participants will walk the route from Gogolevsky Square to Alexander Garden, discovering little-known facts and hidden layers of the urban environment. The excursion will begin in the square by the Gogol monument, at the site of a former Moscow estate, and will continue along the Boulevard Ring - the so-called "green necklace of Moscow," which emerged after the fire of 1812 on the site of the walls of the White City. Attention will be paid to the plants growing in the historical center, their species and roles in the urban ecosystem. Moving along Vozdvizhenka, participants will see unique architectural objects, such as the Kutafya Tower - the only surviving shooting point of the Kremlin. Interesting facts about fortifications, bridges, and small rivers now hidden underground will be revealed: Sivka, Chertorya, Neglinnaya. The final point of the route will be Alexander Garden, laid out by Osip Bove in 1823. Here, participants will learn how the garden became part of the city's restoration plan, get acquainted with the trees, flowerbeds, and the peculiarities of their cultivation in the metropolis. The cultural component will also be touched upon: literary and artistic references, memorials, and lost architectural elements. Where to go in Moscow today will be told by our website.
