About

The St. Petersburg metro is a true underground museum, where each stop tells its own architectural story. Why do late Soviet stations impress with their scale and artistic approach? This will be discussed in an open forum with architects and urban environment researchers. The St. Petersburg metro is a city beneath a city, where every transfer, every station bears the imprint of its era. To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the metro, the Mayakovsky Library invites you to a discussion dedicated to one of the most interesting pages in the history of underground architecture. Stations built in the 1970s and 1980s are true works of art, combining monumentality, functionality, and symbolism. They are the result of bold experiments with form, materials, light, and space. Participants will learn about these stations and the uniqueness of their concepts. Register for the meeting here. Our website features the current schedule of events in St. Petersburg.
