Burroughs. Featuring Reece Soko-Fogg, Sam Eastmond, Nika Ticciati, Fergus Quill and Teruki Chan, The idea of this project came from Fergus exploring ways you could present the work of Charlie Parker in ways that felt innovative and defiant of attempts to make his work into a museum piece but also in a way that showed the inherent beauty of the language he left for generations of improvisers. Fergus decided to cut up his copy of ‘The Charlie Parker Omnibook’ and reassemble it to produce new music without changing a note of the music of Charlie Parker. Sam Eastmond and Reece Soko-Fogg also contributed compositions using this technique. The album was recorded in one day in one room with one mic per person (including drums) and no amplification in an attempt to get closer to the environment Bird was in when he produced his masterpieces. Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom. If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn. They teach you there's a boundary line to music. But, man, there's no boundary line to art.
