A reconstruction of the 1890 performance in the choreography of Marius Petipa - a brilliant work by choreographer Sergey Vikharev. This performance is a true ballet treasure. The choreography of Marius Petipa was restored by the ballet master of the Mariinsky Theatre, Sergey Vikharev, who passed away prematurely in 2017. He based his work on the choreographic notes of Nikolai Sergeyev from the Harvard University collection. The scenography was recreated thanks to sketches and photographs stored in the Museum of Theatrical and Musical Art, as well as documents from the Historical Archive. The performance has been on stage at the Mariinsky since spring 1999. For nearly twenty years, it has remained one of the favorite productions for audiences of all ages. The highest achievements of classical choreography are combined here with a fairy-tale plot, colorful characters, and vibrant artistic design.
