A great creation by choreographer Roman Petita based on the novel by Victor Hugo. A grand ballet to the music of Maurice Jarre, inspired by Hugo's novel, this is a story of love, life, and death. According to Petita's concept, the performance was meant to clarify the tragedy embedded in the novel. The audience will be transported to the mystical atmosphere of medieval Paris, immersing themselves in the depth of the main characters' experiences conveyed through the language of movement and dance. The ballet premiered in 1965 in Paris and was met with tremendous success. The outstanding music and brilliant choreography made a splash, as did the costumes by Yves Saint Laurent and the artistic design by René Allio.
