This performance has a complex history. It was created by Vladimir Burmeister on commission and was brought to the stage of the Stanislavsky Theatre as early as 1963. A new edition of the ballet was released in 2001 - primarily, the staging was updated to be more modern. During its tours, the ballet achieved tremendous success, becoming the main event of the season. The score is compiled from several works by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky - it includes excerpts from music based on Ostrovsky's plot, from the First Symphony (also known as "Winter Dreams") and from other instrumental works. The composer incredibly subtly conveys the national color in the music - Tchaikovsky always heard the modal inclinations of folk melodies very sensitively and uniquely, adapting them to his music while preserving their uniqueness. In "Snegurochka," the genius of the stylizations benefits the atmosphere of the performance. Colorful and rich decorations, with snow covering the stage, immerse the audience in the atmosphere of Ostrovsky's fairy tale, the plot of which the ballet, by the way, precisely repeats. There are many long and incredibly beautiful adagios, and the dancers follow the classical canons of fairy tale ballet. Many choreographic decisions - for example, the scene where Snegurochka melts - are good precisely in their simplicity. The plot of the performance is transparent and understandable even to children, but it is not recommended to bring very young children to the performance, as the story, as is known, ends sadly.
