A modern interpretation of the famous Soviet ballet by V. Vainonen about the revolutionary events in France in 1789. Ballet "The Flame of Paris" - premiered in 2013 at the Mikhailovsky Theatre. The plot is based on the events of the French Revolution at the end of the 18th century. The first production of the ballet had an ideological subtext and was created by choreographer Vasily Vainonen in honor of the fifteenth anniversary of October. The revolutionary theme in Russia was somewhat related to the distant events in France. The old version of the performance was greatly loved not only by the audiences in St. Petersburg and Moscow but also by Stalin himself. Nowadays, the chief choreographer of the Mikhailovsky Theatre, Mikhail Messerer, decided to create a new version of the famous Soviet ballet. It is impossible, and unnecessary, to take the action on stage too seriously. The overly propagandistic tone of the production and the somewhat implausible actions of the French Revolution are inherent to this ballet, however, one can safely distract from this and perceive "The Flame of Paris" as a historical fairy tale. The main feature of the ballet is, of course, the grand mass dances: the Marseille, Auvergnat, Carmagnole, the Basque dance, and finally the concluding "Triumph of the Republic." The duration of the ballet is 2 hours and 10 minutes.
