A ballet with music by young Rodion Shchedrin based on the tale by Pyotr Yershov - a bright fantasy performance interesting to audiences of all ages. Familiar childhood characters from Yershov's tale - Ivanushka, his inept brothers, the magical little horse, the foolish Tsar, and the beautiful Tsar-maiden - come to life in a playful performance created in classical traditions. The music for the ballet was composed by Rodion Shchedrin at the very beginning of his creative path, while he was a student at the conservatory. The director of the performance, Mikhail Messerer, based the choreography on that of Alexander Radunsky, the ballet master who staged "The Little Humpbacked Horse" in 1960 at the Bolshoi Theatre. "The Little Humpbacked Horse" is a full-scale ballet, rich in action and vivid imagery. The famous scenographer Vyacheslav Okunev used motifs of Palekh painting in the design of the production.
