An Italian fairy tale set to the music of Karen Khachaturian. The famous fairy tale by Gianni Rodari about the brave Chipollino and the fruit and vegetable rebellion inspired artist Boris Dezhkin to create the animated film that became a Soviet classic. The music for the animated film was composed by Karen Khachaturian, who later also composed the ballet based on the libretto by Gennady Rykhlov - this colorful and kind musical performance has been staged in many Russian theaters since its premiere in 1974. Inventive dance numbers were choreographed by Heinrich Maiorov, who created a new original edition of the ballet for the Mikhailovsky Theatre. The fairy tale of the Italian writer turned out to be remarkably rewarding material. "Chipollino" combines virtuosic choreography with bright character, familiar childhood music with colorful scenography, and confident grotesque with tender lyricism, making the performance perfectly suitable for family viewing. The role of Chipollino will be performed by the premier of the Mikhailovsky Theatre Ivan Zaitsev, and the Count Cherry will be played by the theatre's premier Viktor Lebedev. The duration of the performance is 2 hours. For more performances in St. Petersburg, check our website in the theatre section. Where to go in St. Petersburg? KudaGo will advise!
