About

A luxurious cathedral with a rich history will open its doors to the participants of the tour to introduce them to two important stages of its life. Together with the guide, guests will explore ancient relics and admire the picturesque views of the capital from the observation deck. The Cathedral of Christ the Savior was built in the 19th century as a tribute to God for the victory over Napoleon. During the Soviet era, it was destroyed but regained new life in the late 90s. During the walk through the halls of the upper and lower cathedral, Anna Kohtyuk will tell the visitors about two milestones in the history of this iconic structure. Visitors will learn where the cathedral was originally planned to be built, what problems arose during its construction, what fate befell it in the 20th century, and which Metropolitans corresponded with Pushkin. The guide will show the cathedral's guests beautiful paintings, relics, and sanctities, among which will be an unusual icon created in a rare and ancient encaustic technique. In the concluding part of the tour, participants will ascend to the observation deck located under the drum of the main dome and listen to a story about the sights seen from a bird's-eye view.
